The Park of Liuhua Lake is located in the west of Guangzhou and close to Yuexiu Hill. There is a beautiful story about the name of the lake. It is said that in 917 AD the emperor of the Southern Han Kingdom built Fangchun Park beside the lake. The women in the palace threw many flowers into the lake and the flowers floated on the surface of the water. So the lake is named Liuhua Lake.

Shawan Ancient Town was established in the Song Dynasty. During its more than 800 years of development, with the formation and retention of its unique south of the Five Ridges culture, it has got the honour of China Historical and Cultural Town & Hometown of Chinese FolkArt-Piaose Town, Canton Music Town, etc.

To train cadres to meet the needs of the rapidly developing worker-peasant movement in the First Revolutionary Civil War (1924-1927), Comrade Mao Tsetung headed and directed the National Institute of the Peasant Movement in Guangzhou from May 1926. The Institute enrolled 327 trainees from 20 provinces and regions in the country. Comrades Chou En-Iai, Hsiao Chu-nu, Peng Pai and Yun Tai-Ying were among the teachers.
