Dapeng Fortress and Ancient Village

Dapeng Fortress is located in the Dapeng Peninsula in eastern Shenzhen. Originally built in the 27th year of Hongwu's reign in the Ming dynasty (A.D.1394),Dapeng Fortress is a critical military and naval defence fort of China and played an important role in guarding against the invasion of western colonial island protecting the south China coastal lines in Ming and Qing dynasties, hailed as the "Fortification of the Provincial Capital" Pengcheng (the city of Peng), another name for Shenzhen, is derived from it.

The overall layout and style of southern China naval defence military forts of Ming and Qing dynasties have been well preserved at Dapeng Fortress, and it offers significant relic value as well as scientific and artistic values. Dapeng Fortress was announced as "Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected the National Level" in June 2001and Pengcheng Village where aping Fortress is located was announced as the first batch of“Chinese of Historical and Cultural Famous Villages by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and State Administration of Cultural Heritage in October 2003. In the selection of "Eight Sceneries of Shenzhen" in June 2004, DapengFortress was ranked at the top. June 2016, Dapeng Fortresswas listed as one of "Shenzhen's Top Ten Cultural Icons". In 2019, it was chosen as a parallel site of the Shenzhen-Hong KongBiennale of Urban Architecture and named as one of the 10characteristic of cultural neighbourhoods in Shenzhen.


Points of Interest

Dapeng South Gate

This is the main entrance to the ancient city. Originally there were four gates and over time they have experienced many wars and vicissitudes of life, and have been repaired many times. Today, people can see the majestic appearance of the Ming Dynasty, and the old city and most of the city walls are no longer in sight.

Residence of General Liu Qilong

Located in the South Gate Street of the ancient city, it is a typical courtyard building from the middle of the QinDynasty. It was the residence of General Liu Qilong, the admiral of the Fujian Navy in the Qing Dynasty. The front of the gate has the title of "General”.

The Tianhou Palace

Located in Dapeng street Pengcheng Street, before the Ming Yongle (AD 1403-1425 years). It is a temple dedicated to the god of protection at sea. The Tianhou Palace covers an area of more than 200 square meters.

How to get there

  1. There are many buses that head from the city area to the bus station 大鹏二小 including M457/Dapeng Holiday Line (大鹏假日专线)/4/5/7/6/11/12 and 13. Dapeng Holiday Line 3 bus (大鹏假日专线3路) stops nearby at Dapeng City Station (大鹏所城).
