Dongguan Keyuan Garden
Keyuan Garden is one of the four famous gardens in Guangdong Province, enjoying a high reputation together with the other three gardens: Qinghui Garden in Shunde wotnship of Foshan, Yuyin Garden in Panyu District of Guangzhou, and Liang Gardenin Foshan City.
The garden was built in 1850 in the reign of Emperor Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty and it covers an area of 2, 200 hectares. It is ingeniously constructed and mixed with towers, courtyards, gardens and winding corridors. There are six platforms, five pavilions, six terraces, five ponds, three bridges, nineteen halls and fifteen rooms, many of whose names begin with ke (means 'not too bad' in Chinese), such as Kelou Building, Kexuan Hall, Ketang Hall, Kezhou pond, etc. The buildings in the garden are all built of blue bricks polished with a water stone.
Despite this, each structure is different with no repetitions and unique designs. The buildings in the garden are constructed based on the keynotes of empty with scenery, sparse but not void, big while small, dense but not annoying, peaceful and interesting, quiet and fragrant, with fresh and lively displays. It is full of southern features and is a treasure of Guangdong gardens. Keyuan Garden is a classical architecture and a wonder of the world.
