Radish Cake (Luo Bo Gao)
Radish Cake is a traditional cake having in Spring Festival, but people still can find it from market in other seasons. Radish cake is a sweet spice cake with grated radish mixed into the batter. Almost every Cantonese family eats this dessert at every gathering.
The main ingredient, radish, though not known for being a sweet food, works perfectly to balance this cake. Sugar, carrots, shrimp, cured pork, and rice slurry make up the remainder of the cake, which is then steamed. Once cooked-through, it is tossed into a pan and fried until it is golden brown and ready to eat.
