Water Town and Southern Chinese Bazaar Tour

Shun Tak is a land of plenty, well known for fish farming, fruit production and flower cultivation. As of 2017 there are 18 cities in the world which have been awarded the UNESCO "City of Gastronomy", of which Shun Tak is one of two in China (the other being Chengdu). You have chance experiencing the life of the traditional Cantonese in this town. In this amazing place you also can enjoy the delicate Shun Tak cuisines. Let's have a meet with the very traditional Canton culture lesser-known water towns and the largest flea market in the Pearl River Delta.

Shunde Town

Begin the journey from your Guangzhou downtown hotel at 10 am, drive to Shun Tak (about 1.2 hours driving). With a flat terrain, Shun Tak is endowed with a dense network of waterways, renowned for its fish farming ponds, rice paddies with silkworm mulberry trees planting around, forming an effective system of agriculture. It is also an unforgettable feature of the Pearl River Delta.

shunde watertown

We will visit a charming water village on the outskirts of the town after lunch, it is a beautiful river village has a history going back nearly 2,300 years. Around the village waterway, the area of waterways is up to 28 km. There are hundreds of ancient houses, old trees all over the slate road, tree lined, calm and poetic. Stroll through the 800-year-old village, discover its picturesque waterways by walking or boat before having lunch. The ancient canals, ancient ancestral halls and the ancient bridges, and many history elements will make a lot of surprise to you! Then we enjoy the delicate Cantonese sashimi-style raw fish as lunch.

Guangzhou Bazaar

After having lunch, we drive 50 minutes and visit the largest typical Southern Chinese bazaar in Pearl River Delta region, similar with the Western flea market, in which you are apt to find anything reasonably priced. The Bazaar has a long history, it set up in the South Song Dynasty (1127-1279), it has moved to several places but never closed. It moved to the present location in 1990s. There are almost everything can be found here at a bargaining local price (not a tourist price). Clothes, general merchandise, flowers, birds, insects, fishes, fruits, herbs, hardware, furniture, Chinese wares and more miscellaneous, etc. are all available in this Bazaar, the list is endless, you cannot find everything, but you will see things you haven't seen elsewhere.

Once you're deep in the bowels of the bazaar, it will seem like there is no order and no escape, but the market is arranged into relatively coherent sections. It is hustle and bustle on Bazaar Day, not only a perfect place for good bargains, but an ideal opportunity to experience the daily life and local culture. Some customers even come all the way from Hong Kong, Macau, and other places in Guangdong to come to this Bazaar for shopping, sightseeing, and recalling the memory of the past. This market is surely a worth visit as an extra program for those who have 2 or 3 days in Guangzhou.

Guangzhou Bazaar

This market has many stalls selling different kind of fruit juices, you can always buy them in the market and without any inflation. A number of Chinese-style eating and snacking can be found in here too, if you tired and hungry after a long walk around the market, you can happily throw yourself inside any food stall to enjoy the mouth-watering foods. Drive back to Guangzhou by 5:30 pm.

This tour is only available on the Bazaar Day of the 3rd, 6th, 9th of every month according to Chinese lunar calendar. Please inquire before booking. During the rainy season, this market can be turned into a hell. There are not much covered space around the stalls and there are no other place to hide you during the rain. Huge Crowd in the search of a shelter during the rain makes it impossible to accommodate everyone under the sheds. It is better to avoid this market during the rain.
